This is my review for whole series.
I have read some sport manga, and the main plot of this genre is cliché, from zero to hero. Although they all basically have the same basic plot, there are still new sport manga since Captain Tsubasa. Authors/creators of sport manga are inventing new ideas in premises, themes, or characters (oh, and illustration arts too, we are talking about manga). I almost dropped this after reading the first 2 chapters because it was so generic, but decided I should at least finish the volume. You know, since it's supposed to be a pretty good sports manga/anime and all. Also because I've dropped too many manga after reading only the first chapter or two, and a series really does need more of a chance than that.

With the upcoming NFL season (2017) a few weeks away, there are more suitable reads than Eyeshield 21 but the humor and sports action make for a potent combination.

So, my favorite genre of anime/manga is sports manga, as weird as that might seem to even myself - because I honestly don't care about any sort of sports at all in real life, but make it fake and it's my favorite. Eyeshield 21 is no exception - and, actually, the only sports manga that I've really read - oh, I've read a few chapters here and there of Kuroko no Basket, or Kenichi: the Mightiest Disciple, but I've never really sat down and just read the manga until Eyeshield 21.

This book is about an average boy named Sena who runs errands for his sister all the time. Sena had just got into a new high school with a new start without any friend so his sister convinced him to go to clubs and in the end the football club was the one best suited for him. Since Sena had been running a lot of errands he had superb speed and it really gave him the advantage with the football team for a runner.

Eyeshield 21 features all the clichés you can expect from a sports manga, yet it's executed so well that it doesn't really matter. The artwork is awesome, the pacing is great and the characters are diverse, interesting and have developed personalities and motivations. Seriously, Hiruma Youichi alone is a good reason to read this manga.

Cute art, but the story didn't grab me. I am reading so many sports manga that Eyeshield 21 has serious competition, and this volume fell short. I love the action scenes when Sena is running, usually away from something. But the eyeshield? That's too silly, even for me. It's like Clark Kent and the glasses. Everyone is too unobservant to realize that the little team manager disappears and the little runner dude appears, just when he's needed the most. Nah, I am just not buying that.

This manga is “EYESHIELD 21” this is American football manga. Actually, I didn’t know about American football before reading this manga . But I could enjoy this manga.
Of course, you can enjoy without the knowledge. This manga makes us excited without the knowledge. And you can get the knowledge of American football. I wanted to play American football. You maybe wanted to ply American football too.

Aaaaahh Eyeshield 21 ! J'ai regardé une bonne partie du dessin animé quand j'étais plus jeune. J'adorais. Il est finalement temps de se mettre à la version papier ! Et c'est cool, évidemment. Le n'importe quoi de Hiruma rend moins bien en manga pour l'instant (c'est plus rigolo de l'entendre crier) mais les actions sportives rendent mieux sur papier, je trouve, aussi bizarre que ça puisse paraître.

He was cornered but the urge to protect his childhood friend is stronger. Someone discovered his talent as a running back of an American football team. This series currently holds the title of My Mostest Favoritest Manga. I've grown up in a household where Autumn Saturdays are already booked as college football days. Had so much fun reading this one. Great characters, nice pacing and enjoyable battles. It's not perfect but it was very good up until the World Cup arc. The final arc was so disappointing and that's the reason why I had to shave off a star. It should've ended with the Christmas Bowl and in my mind, that will always be the final arc. I've never been interested in American Football but because I was reading this one, I ended up watching football highlights in Youtube.

Maybe a reread of this is exactly what I need. I love these characters so much and their struggles never fail to get me motivated. This first book just sets up the main conflict (going to the Christmas Bowl) and the main characters (Sena, Hiruma, Kurita and Mamori) so it's not too hard hitting. But I just want to pick up the next one right now to see them all become a team. So that's exactly what I'm going to do.

Je dois le dire, les manga de sport sont facilement dans les meilleurs oeuvres que j’ai lu point à la ligne. Slam Dunk est facilement dans mon top 5 manga a vie et il parle de basketball. What I love the most about this manga is that it gives Japan's perspective on an aspect of American culture. Eyeshield 21 is such a fun story that even readers who know nothing about football (me) will be rooting for the Deimon Devil Bats to win the Christmas Bowl!

He debuted in October 2001 with Nandodemo Roku Gatsu Jū San Hi, and also wrote for the magazine Square Freeze and Love Love Santa, published in November 2001 and in February 2002 respectively. He later moved to Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump, in wich he won the 7th 'Story King' section in the same year.
