Illinois is using the computer-formatted GED test for its HSE (High School Equivalency) program.
Additionally, Illinois welcomed two alternatives as well, the HiSET and the TASC exams.
The GED test is computerized and comes with four individual modules (subtests) that can be taken one by one within a 2-year time frame.
The four testing fields are Literacy (Reasoning through Language Arts), Social Studies, Math (Mathematical Reasoning), and Science.
The HiSET and TASC include five subtests (separate reading and writing subtests) that can be taken both on paper and on a computer and also individually.
In Illinois, test takers must additionally take and pass the Illinois Constitution Test.

Illinois GED requirements
In Illinois, applicants are eligible to take the GED exam if they meet these guidelines: They must be 17 years of age or older, not are high school or GED graduates, and have lived in Illinois for no less than thirty days. If applicants are of school age and have been engaged in a school setting (public, private, or at home) during the last 12 months, they are required to submit a signed withdrawal letter from the school they attended prior to taking the GED exam. Individuals who take the GED exam need to present acceptable identification that least shows their names, addresses, dates of birth, signatures, and photographs. Acceptable forms of identification are a valid driver’s license, a valid passport, a military ID, or a government-issued (state, nation or foreign) ID such as passports.
Who is the GED exam for?
The GED program is developed to assists men and women who never got a high school diploma with becoming sufficiently prepared so they can acquire their GED credential and improve their job options and gain access to colleges, universities, and training and trade schools. The passing score on each of the four GED subtests was lowered by five points to 145 just two years after the latest GED test was implemented.
